LightForce Laser Therapy

Fast, effective pain relief using high-power Class IV laser treatment

LightForce Laser Therapy is an advanced, non-invasive treatment designed to reduce pain, accelerate healing, and improve mobility. It uses a powerful Class IV medical laser to deliver therapeutic light deep into muscles, tendons, ligaments, and joints. This helps calm inflammation, improve circulation, and speed up tissue repair.

At Northampton Sports Therapy, we use the latest LightForce technology, chosen for its depth of penetration, contact technique and evidence base. It is safe, quick, and comfortable for most people.

Laser therapy is often used alongside our other tools such as exercise rehabilitation, shockwave therapy, and hands-on treatment for the best long-term results.

How It Works

LightForce Laser Therapy uses wavelengths of light that are absorbed by cells. This triggers a series of biological responses:

  • Reduced inflammation

  • Improved blood flow

  • Faster tissue repair

  • Reduced nerve sensitivity

  • Reduced muscle spasm

  • Improved local circulation

Because it is a Class IV laser, LightForce can deliver a therapeutic dose quickly, making treatments efficient and effective.

  • A typical dose lasts 4–10 minutes depending on the injury
  • The handpiece is applied directly to the skin

  • Mild to moderate warmth is normal

  • Most people find it comfortable

  • Many experience a noticeable reduction in pain within the first few sessions

There is no downtime and you can return to normal activities immediately.

LightForce Laser Therapy has been studied in a range of musculoskeletal conditions. Research supports its use for:

  • Tendon pain (Achilles, patellar, lateral elbow)

  • Plantar fasciitis

  • Osteoarthritis

  • Post-operative pain

  • Muscle injuries

  • Joint pain and stiffness

Results are typically best when laser is combined with progressive loading and rehabilitation. Check out light forces own research bank here or many published journals or literature reviews on pubmed. There are also promising results from a range of other health conditions. Why not contact us to see if we can help you?

No. You may feel gentle or moderate heat in the area being treated but it generally very well tolerated.

Although the exact plan depends on your condition, a typical laser only course looks like this:

  • 2–3 sessions per week for 2–3 weeks

  • Most people notice improvement within 3–6 sessions

  • Complex or long-standing problems may need a longer plan
  • Laser can also be used between shockwave therapy sessions to speed recovery

Your therapist will assess and plan the right approach for you and adjust to suit our multi modal approach.

LightForce is a Class IV medical laser with higher power, meaning it can deliver an effective therapeutic dose much faster and reach deeper tissues. The energy can be modulated on our device to act as a low level laser too it just takes much longer to get the energy in to the tissues.

Yes. Shockwave and laser can be used together really effectivly in sessions or laser in between shockwave sessions to help reduce pain and improve recovery. Application of this varies greatly so your therapist will advise you on the best treatment for you.

Some clients notice improvement after the first few sessions, but most see clear progress with their symptoms within 3–6 treatments especially when using a combined approach. Some chronic conditions or client groups may take longer

Side effects are rare. A lasting feeling of heat or temporary redness may occur.

Yes. LightForce laser systems are used in hospitals, professional sports environments, and private clinics worldwide.

Safety measures include:

  • Protective eyewear for everyone in the room

  • Screening for contraindications

  • Controlled dosage and monitored skin temperature

Contraindications are active cancer, pregnancy over the treatment area but there are a few other things that we like to know about so a brief history will be taken prior to treatment.

We use a high end Lightforce laser device. With all our equipment in clinic we wanted to buy the best kits irrespective of cost to help us deliver the best results for our clients. After extensive research we settled on the 25w Lightforce laser due to its continuous rather than pulsed beam, on skin contact so no energy is lost and range of hand pieces to make application easier for a range of conditions. Then the education provided and studies to back their protocols stood them above their competition.
